julianne hough: “so wrong” for CMT?

dancing with the stars alum julianne hough is trying her hand in the music industry… but don’t worry, she’s not abandoning her dancing roots just yet!

check out her music video for “is that so wrong,” above. do you notice anything different about it? YES, you spotted it. pirouettes, flips, splits, arabesques and pointy toes. is she trying to score a perfect 10 from the judges or something?

the video debuted amidst rumors that CMT has banned the it due to its racy nature (lingerie bed-writhing). CMT counters that they’re just working out some contractual issues and it’ll be up and running. riiiiiight.

in my opinion, her naughty night escapades are not the issue. it’s the fact that she’s fusing her classically-trained dance moves in the middle of a music video (see minute 1:40, for example). just awkward. but maybe it’s just me?

michael jackson’s new music controversy

i’m not even going to pretend i was michael jackson‘s biggest fan. but i can’t deny that it feels really great to hear his voice again!

he’s just so iconic!

press play above to hear hold my hand, a duet sung with rapper/producer akon. the new single will be featured on MJ’s upcoming posthumous album, michael, to be released on december 14th.

“this life don’t last forever, so tell me what we’re waiting for,” jackson sings. “we’re better off being together, than being miserable alone.”

black-eyed peas frontman will.i.am recently spoke up about the release of MJ’s tracks, saying “michael jackson songs are finished when michael says they’re finished.” to go public with them now, he says, is “disrespectful.”

i’m inclined to agree. as much as we want more of MJ, history would tell us he wouldn’t have been too happy about this.

will’s willow whips her hair

she’s 9. yes, you heard me right, 9-years-old!

will smith’s daughter willow has taken up the family business, making quite the mark for herself! willow debuted her first single, whip my hair, a few weeks ago and the internets has since been abuzz with pictures and teasers of the accompanying music video.

well, it’s here! check it out above. man, she’s got moves! confidence! style!

recently signed to jay-z’s roc nation label, it seems this little lady is here to stay. “i believe in big records and superstars,” jay says, “and i think she has both.

when will justin return to music?

so if you’re like me, you’re wondering when the talented justin timberlake will – if ever – return to music.

he’s philandered on SNL, starred in various movies and has even taken on the world of golf… which is great. buuuut i think we’re ready for more music, justin.

when asked by entertainment weekly when he’ll get back to the studio, he said:

“…does a painter make a painting because he has to make it by december 21st? no, he doesn’t. it happens when it pours out of him. that’s how music is for me. it’s not methodical. it’s so much more of an outburst of emotion…”

i never stop making music. i don’t know what else to tell you, except that i just don’t know [in] what capacity i want to be involved anymore… all i’m saying is, in very simple terms, i’ll know when i know. and until i know, i don’t know.”

in another interview, timberlake discusses wanting to hone his acting skills… which is why he is “very selective” about the movie roles he picks. very selective, huh? what about your upcoming yogi bear remake, justin?

get back in the studio, pretty please!

ellen: a music mogul?

i like ellen. don’t get me wrong. she’s a great TV host. but now she’s starting her own record label! whaaa?

it is actually painful to watch her judge on american idol. her funny one-liners just can’t quite mask the fact that she has no music industry know-how. you can only say “you’re good” and “you’re bad” in so many ways, you know, before her critiques all start to sound the same.

so what’s she doing starting a label? called eleveneleven, ellen’s new label will work in collaboration with telepictures productions. she’s even got her first signed artist! the AMAZING youtuber greyson chance will debut under eleveneleven, with co-managers guy oseary and troy carter (who’ve managed madonna and lady gaga, respectively).

okay so she’s got the help. but can she pull this off? if it weren’t for the big-name backers, i don’t think ellen would stand a chance. thoughts?

not “herself” tonight!

holy bondage, christina! trying to stay relevant, are we ms. aguilera? it would appear so, judging by the premiere video her latest single not myself tonight! check it out, above.

the little lady is groping, grinding, humping, stripping, kissing, straddling… with boys AND girls (did anyone else notice that the brunette she gets it on with is channing tatum’s wife jenna dewan??!)

she’s really taking the “sex sells” mentality to heart! the 29-year-old singer embraces her inner dominatrix in the vid, saying “i’m more confident and comfortable in my own skin. “i think i’m even a more sexual christina.”

yeah, like how is that possible? anyone remember her video for dirty?

not to mention the striking similarities between her “new” look and that of lady gaga’s. everything from the tongue-in-cheek dancing to the hair, make-up and outfits. well, they do share a director – hype williams also led lady gaga & beyonce in the video for video phone.

what do you think of the video… or song, for that matter?

adam lambert a mentor?!

mariah carey, neil diamond, dolly parton, usher, mick jagger… adam lambert?! clearly, american idol had one thing in mind when selecting adam lambert as their next mentor judge: money.

promoting lambert on the show is essentially free marketing for the idol peeps & their label. because they clearly weren’t thinking about music industry experience! this guy’s been around for what – 10.5 minutes? annoying.

adam will be mentoring tonight on idol – april 13th. alright i get it, it’s your show, you wanna promote your own people. but how about some previous idols with proven success stories… (aka carrie underwood, kelly clarkson)

regardless, the queen of glam will be mentoring on tuesday’s show, and performing on wednesday. are you excited? or like me… annoyed?

jay-z: the man behind the ‘single lady’

how cute can they possibly get? power couple extraordinaire jay-z and beyonce are precious beyond words. and rich. and beautiful. oh yeah, and extremely talented!

rarely do we head the either of them dish on their relationship, but jay-z was less tight-lipped than usual this past weekend. the music mogul let loose on BBC’s friday night with jonathan ross, and crap, he’s kinda funny! watch above… and prepare to giggle.

he says of his wife, “she’s a magnificent performer… i steal routines from her, she stole many things from me. the whole ‘uh-oh’ dance. i started that.” (speakin’ on beyonce’s famous single ladies video). he goes on to say that it was him who choreographed the famous hand flip in the vid! “i actually created that dance. that was me, again.” oh, jay. i’ll believe it when i see it!

dolla dolla bills

yes, she looks like she needs a shower. and no, we’re not sure when exactly her last rinse-off was. nevertheless, singer/rapper ke$ha has a number one album. her musical debut, animal, is sittin’ pretty on the billboard charts, at 151,942 copies sold. but that’s not what i find most interesting. enter, the dollar sign. the 22-year-old was born kesha, but threw in the $ before her music career took off.

i actually cringe every time i have to include a dollar sign when writing her name, but the story behind it is pretty interesting. remember flo rida’s party anthem ‘right round?’ yeah, that was ke$ha singing the chorus. she lent her vocals to the song, and got jack squat for it even as the song became a hit worldwide.

“[right round] was number one in a bajillion countries and i didn’t have enough money to buy myself a taco,” she lamented. the dollar sign became a thing of irony: “i was broke while being on a number-one record.” well, regardless of how the dollar sign came to be, one thing’s for sure… she ain’t broke now!

ear full of jewels

gagaphones

do you have lots of moolah to throw around on things that don’t matter? then this is the product for you! lady gaga teamed up with dr. dre to launch her very own line of headphones. yes, headphones.

and here’s the best part. they go for a whopping $99.95 to $149.95 depending upon the style you choose. what, are these magic earphones or something? apparently it’s a small price to pay to have a pair of diamond-shape jewels in your ears.

the lady explains her new adventure in the marketing materials: “in the deepest hour of the night, i confess to myself three things; i would die if i was forbidden to write, forbidden to love, or forbidden to fashion. heartbeats embody the trinity of my human-being, with one additional vow: that SOUND matters. wear heartbeats, love each other, and celebrate the art and lifestyle of music.”

i’ll pass, thanks.
