one foxy host

sure she’s gorrrrgeous, but can she be funny? megan fox of ‘transformer’s fame is headlining ’saturday night live’s’ season 35th premiere tonight as the sketch show’s host.  she & cast member andy samberg put together a series of web promos for the big show – check them out above.

based on the promos, i’d be surprised if every skit didn’t focus on her good looks. let’s face it – the girl ain’t famous for her acting. her latest flick, ‘jennifer’s body,’ bombed big time at the box office. but the ‘snl’ cast is known for being able to carry guest hosts along – anyone recall the michael phelps episode?! – so i’m sure meggy will be just fine.

although, i gotta admit, she’s a fairly awkward person. the lady appeared on the jimmy fallon show this past thursday to discuss her upcoming ‘snl’ debut, and things got kinda strange. apparently she’s scared of touching paper? in any case, tonight’s the big night. megan will bring her crazy to nyc and we’ll see if she gets our laughs. also starring with megan will be musical guest u2. go big or go home, megs!

the claws are out

cougarslideri think abc just found themselves in a bit of hot hypocrite water! heard of their new comedy ‘cougar town‘ starring courteney cox arquette? the show follows cox as a recently divorced single mother as she “explores the honest truths about dating and aging in a beauty and youth-obsessed culture”. the premiere was actually pretty darn funny, if you ask me! totally unrealistic of course, but funny.

anyway, apparently the dating website cougarlife.com saw the opportunity for a chance at a similar audience, and approached abc to run a commerical during ‘cougar town’s’ premiere. self-proclaimed cougar claudia openkelder runs the website, and was thrilled at the chance to advertise. while originally there was some debate about whether or not to air the commercial (see it in all of its glory, below), abc decided to move forward with the deal.

until… they pulled the plug last-minute! apparently they decided they no longer felt it was “appropriate” to promote a site for cougars. but yet they can air an entire show about them? claudia over at cougarlife.com was none too pleased and naturally released a statement:

“it appears the executives at abc seem a little too insecure to allow the notion of real world cougars to exist anywhere other than in the realm of fiction.”

BAM, cougar-lady!

jim + pam = love

ew-cover-1068_l1ross & rachel. zack morris & kelly kapowski. jim & pam. what do these couples have in common? they have that plot-generating will-they-won’t-they relationship that helped keep their much-loved tv shows high in the ratings game. after 5 seasons of everyone’s favorite ‘office’ romance, jim & pam are finally tying the knot. premiering october 8th (i know - too long of a wait!), the special hour-long episode of ‘the office’ is promising lotsa good stuff.

entertainment weekly got the scoop on jim & pam’s upcoming nuptials and baby mania – check out their cuter-than-cute footage from the cover photo shoot below.  john krasinski (jim) says of the two “when you have two characters who are so perfect for each other, it’s a little weird for them not to get married. so you have to put that step in, whether it’s been done on television successfully or not.” but i don’t think they have much to worry about. besides, the ratings for ‘the office’ just keep going up.

of course the real wedding fun begins when pre-ceremony havoc is wreaked by none other than jim himself. not to worry – the whole dunder mifflin crew is there to help “fix” it. and what about the baby in pammy’s tummy? she’s only four months along so all actress jenna fischer’s gotta worry about now is getting fitted for that prosthetic belly. gotta wait ’til february for that little cutie to make it’s ‘office’ debut!

gone too far

dj_am7

shortly before dj am’s tragic death, he was involved in a drug-intervention reality show called ‘gone too far.’ produced by mtv, the crew and dj am (real name, adam goldstein) shot enough footage for eight episodes.

although a toxicolgoy reports has not yet been released, initial findings suggest that dj am died of a drug overdose. which, of course brings into question his role as a “sober and experienced tough-love guide for troubled addicts” on the reality show. apparently mtv still plans to air the series and is in talks with the dj’s family on when to release the footage.

initial reactions to the news were certainly a mixed bag. would the show come off as hypocritical? after all, the show features dj am imploring young individuals to stay clean while he himself was suffering from addictions. the hollywood reporter says “if handled properly… [the show] could successfully impart its anti-drug message, perhaps now even more so.” maybe dj am’s death would be the harsh shock into reality that these addicts need.

television’s big night

it’s the celebration of television! the emmy awards, hosted by neil patrick harris, featured a plethora of your favorite shows & stars – all there to honor the industry’s best. the telecast garnered a viewership of 13.3 million, an impressive 11% increase from last year’s show.

we’re all used to ’30 rock’ being big winners, which of course this year they were as well (best comedy, best lead actor), but i was happy to see some other well-deserved victories. the lovely toni collette won the emmy for best actress in a comedy series (‘united states of tara’). and for his role as ben in ‘lost’, michael emerson won best supporting actor. i also thought it was very fitting for justin timberlake to win best guest host for his hilarious stints on ‘saturday night live.’ click here for a full list of this year’s honorees.

but let’s be honest – you just wanna know who looked good and who failed miserably! best dressed, shall we? i have to give it up to ‘eastwick’ star lindsay price. my oh my she looked stunning in a dress by j. mendel. and emmy award-winning actress toni collette found this drop-dead gorgeous monique l’huillier gown. just plain WOW. who would’ve thought that toni would show up in – of all things – a pink, frilly dress!

as for the worst? well, see for yourself. blake lively, star of ‘gossip girl,’ was on track with a beautiful versace gown… that is until she sliced it down to her navel. it’s just a bit much, yes? and the long, braided ponytail is a little too ‘xena warrior princess’ for my taste. then there’s poor sarah silverman. definitely not a flattering look on her! this is all sorts of wrong. especially the weird hip-bouffant action going on.

the trend of the night? white gowns. we’ve got january jones (‘mad men’) in atelier versace, olivia wilde (‘house’) in marchesa, leighton meester (‘gossip girl’) in bottega veneta & kim kardashian in ina soltani. january & olivia, i’m loving it. as for the other two ladies, i’m not as enthused. kim must’ve known she would get some ‘saturday night fever’ cracks in that outfit!

i pity the remake

the_a-team_logo

ahh crap. way to ruin a classic! the 80′s tv show, ‘the a-team’ is going to be hittin’ theaters. and with some big names, to boot! bradley cooper, liam neeson & jessica biel just to name a few. after months of speculation (and years of re-writes), 20th century fox has begun filming the remake. the team is up and running in vancouver, with joe carnahan directing (‘smokin’ aces’). is it just me, or has hollywood run out of ideas? i mean, really. i have a feeling this adventure into the world of remakes will not fare too well. regardless, the movie pops out in june of 2010.

bradley cooper hit up the tonight show with conan o’brien last week to promote his box office flop ‘all about steve.’ of course conan went on rumor control and probed cooper for some scoop on his next project, ‘the a-team’ movie. bradley will reprise the role of face, ufc fighter rampage jackson will take on ba baracus, sharlto copely (‘district 9′) will play murdoch and liam neeson will be hannibal. and where does jessica biel fit into all of this? well, she’ll be some eye candy for the men. apparently biel will play the ex-girlfriend of face, who is also an army general. hmmm.

to end this post, i’ll quote some fans who commented on the article about the upcoming film: “the a-team? more like the straight to dvd team.” i think this fan may have it right. what do you think?

woody’s back!

toy_story_31

it’s been ten years since we last saw woody & the gang from the ‘toy story’ franchise. anyone else miss them as much as i have? fans were left hungry for more after the 2nd installation, ‘toy story 2′ back in 1999. no worries, they’ve brought us another! boasting a tagline of ‘the toys are back in town,’ the geniuses behind the ‘toy story 3′ have already released a teaser trailer. the flick won’t be out until june of 2010, but there is already plenty of scoop circulating about what to expect.

disney president john lasseter revealed some deets at the disney animation showcase last week. for starters, woody & buzz’s owner, andy, is all grown up and heading for college. this means andy’s gotta find a new home for his beloved toys. lasseter says:

“…the toys end up being sent to a daycare center, where they are horribly abused by the little kids – and after that it’s time for a break-out attempt to find a safe haven, and hopefully a new owner, in a cruel world.”

want some more spoilers? apparently an exclusive clip was shown during the showcase which featured what seemed to be the first scene of the movie. the clip shows andy packing his things for college, trying to decide which toy to bring with him. finally choosing only his pal woody, andy leaves the bag full of the other toys ready for garbage pickup. woody frantically tries to save his friends from a messy fate. i guess we’ll have to wait ’til next june for more!

her musical chops

she can sing! actress jennifer aniston appeared on ‘the ellen degeneres show’ today to promote her latest flick, ‘love happens.’ after some chitty chatting, ellen inquires about jen’s upcoming project called ‘the goree girls,’ which calls for aniston to sing. ellen coaxes the lovely lady to serenade the audience, and she obliges with a sultry rendition of ‘i’ve got a crush on you.’ pretty good if you ask me! check out the clip above.

‘the goree girls’ is based on the book by john lee hancock which centers around the true-life story of eight female inmates who form a country bank in texas back in the 1940′s. aniston is set to produce and star in the film, with michael sucsy (‘grey gardens’) directing. this should definitely be interesting, as we have rarely seen aniston in anything outside of romantic comedies.

director sucsy says of the flick:

“these women learned to harmonize and they learned to play instruments. they weren’t these amazing, accomplished singers who banded together. that’s what’s interesting about it. it’s not just like, ‘hey, you can play the guitar, i can play the piano, i can play the harmonica. let’s put a band together.’ it’s like, ‘we have to get out of jail, and if we have to put a band together to do that, then that’s what we’re going to do.’ “

jennifer will also have to learn to play the dobro (a guitar) for her starring role. sucsy plans on casting real musicians to play alongside aniston. ‘the goree girls’ is due out sometime late next year.

texty tv

TFLN_header_oliv

i gotta say, this could be kind of funny. fox is developing a tv adaptation loosely based on the website ‘texts from last night.’ when was the last time we had a comedic sitcom based on the lives of those of us in our 20′s? perhaps this will help fill the void.

writer steve holland (‘the big bang theory’) is set to pen the script with sony pictures & happy madison producing. the tv version of the show will be based on “the whole idea of racy – and sometimes embarrassing – communication, particularly among the twentysomething set.”

while this may be hard to translate into a 30-minute show, it definitely has potential. people tend to do some funny things under the influence! case in point, the ‘texts from last night’ website. readers log on to post texts they’ve sent or received from friends in the midst of intoxication or during a late-night stupor. let’s see if the writers can use the popularity of the website to give fox the hit that they’re looking for.

facebook me

facebook

ahhh facebook. how many times a day do you log on? whether you’re keeping in touch or doing your daily “stalking,” almost everyone’s got a profile on the popular site these days. but it wasn’t always so popular. and that’s where facebook: the movie comes in.

director david fincher (‘fight club’ & ‘the curious case of benjamin button’) is set to take on the flick that will chronicle the early days of facebook. it’s been circulating that the movie, titled ’the social network,’ will be ready for production by the end of 2009. the script is based on an adaptation of the upcoming book accidental billionaires: the founding of facebook, a tale of sex, money, genius and betrayal, written by ben mezrich.

wow! who knew? we thought the founders were a bunch of techy nerd bombers! apparently singer/”actor” justin timberlake has just signed on for the starring role of sean parker, the entrepreneur who created napster and later became facebook’s president. regardless of the interesting casting choices, i think this will at least be an entertaining look into the world that so many of us participate in, but don’t know too much about.
