texty tv

TFLN_header_oliv

i gotta say, this could be kind of funny. fox is developing a tv adaptation loosely based on the website ‘texts from last night.’ when was the last time we had a comedic sitcom based on the lives of those of us in our 20′s? perhaps this will help fill the void.

writer steve holland (‘the big bang theory’) is set to pen the script with sony pictures & happy madison producing. the tv version of the show will be based on “the whole idea of racy – and sometimes embarrassing – communication, particularly among the twentysomething set.”

while this may be hard to translate into a 30-minute show, it definitely has potential. people tend to do some funny things under the influence! case in point, the ‘texts from last night’ website. readers log on to post texts they’ve sent or received from friends in the midst of intoxication or during a late-night stupor. let’s see if the writers can use the popularity of the website to give fox the hit that they’re looking for.

facebook me

facebook

ahhh facebook. how many times a day do you log on? whether you’re keeping in touch or doing your daily “stalking,” almost everyone’s got a profile on the popular site these days. but it wasn’t always so popular. and that’s where facebook: the movie comes in.

director david fincher (‘fight club’ & ‘the curious case of benjamin button’) is set to take on the flick that will chronicle the early days of facebook. it’s been circulating that the movie, titled ’the social network,’ will be ready for production by the end of 2009. the script is based on an adaptation of the upcoming book accidental billionaires: the founding of facebook, a tale of sex, money, genius and betrayal, written by ben mezrich.

wow! who knew? we thought the founders were a bunch of techy nerd bombers! apparently singer/”actor” justin timberlake has just signed on for the starring role of sean parker, the entrepreneur who created napster and later became facebook’s president. regardless of the interesting casting choices, i think this will at least be an entertaining look into the world that so many of us participate in, but don’t know too much about.

glee-less

gleeslider

last may, fox was convinced they had a hit with their latest tv show, ‘glee.’ viewers were ecstatic over the preview of this musically-inclined sitcom. naturally, fox jumped for joy over the ratings & fast-tracked the show into a fall premiere. but they might want to wait on the congratulatory champagne.

the next set of reviews are in. and variety has ripped the hopeful hit to shreds! “talk about one-hit wonders,” the mag writes, ”the promise & energy associated with the debut of ‘glee’ last spring largely evaporates.” the review purports that the series will be short-lived, to say the least.

did ya miss the preview last spring? lemme catch you up. it’s a look at romance through a high-school glee club. misfit singers, star quarterbacks, cheerleaders & awkward teachers fill the cast – with the group occasionally bursting into song & dance. variety says that while the cast has a whole lot of talent, it seems to be crushed alongside the show’s “jokey, cartoonish, wildly uneven tone.” we’ll see if audiences buy into the new show come this season. ‘glee’ premieres on fox sept. 9th at 9pm. i’ll leave you with this parting shot from variety: in order for the show to last, “they’re gonna have to croon a tune helluva lot better than this!”

milking it

levi-johnston-0910

shut your pie hole, levi! regardless on whether or not you like republican vice-presidential nominee sarah palin, i think we can all agree that this media monger has got to stop. after palin’s daughter bristol and boyfriend levi johnston had their baby & split up, the new daddy has embarked on a massive smear campaign. because, let’s be honest, how else will he make money?

johnston has opened up to vanity fair in an exclusive interview to be published in their september issue. entitled “me and mrs. palin,” levi shares insider details on palin family drama. of sarah and husband todd’s marriage, levi says “there was a lot of talk of divorce in that house.” he goes on about sarah’s mothering skills: “even before she was nominated, there wasn’t much parenting in that house… the kids would do it all themselves: cook, clean, do the laundry, and get ready for school.”

according to levi, there was even some master plan for sarah to adopt bristol’s baby? “she told me that once Bristol had the baby she and todd would adopt him…i think sarah wanted to make bristol look good, and she didn’t want people to know that her 17-year-old daughter was going to have a kid.” is any of it true? we have no idea. but it speaks volumes about his maturity level – that he is willing to publicly degrade the mother and extended family of his child. levi, there’s a little something we like to call DIGNITY. go find yourself some!

stiles by styles

i love a good spoof video! julia stiles – we haven’t heard from her in awhile! – posted this hysterical vid poking fun at celebrity fashion designers who push eco-friendly ensembles. the host of the “show” interviews julia as she displays her creative pieces. “have you ever designed anything before?” the host starts off. normally the celebs go into some wacky story about how even though they may be an actress, their heart is in fashion. instead, a straight-faced julia answers “no.”

out come the models. among julia’s designs is a top called “ten shirts i love about you” made from bits of 10 old tops sewn together. and my favorite? the ‘shants,’ a shirt that becomes pants when legs are slipped into the armhole. julia even created a website for the spoof – juliastilesstyles.com - where you can read a bit more about the what & the why behind the project.

the mock clothes mysteriously seem to all be sold out, which is where the website encourages you to instead donate to the lunchbox fund. julia filmed the bit with the comedy troupe the vacationeers. after her stint in “designing,” the actress is headed to broadway to co-star in oleanna. the play premieres october 11th.

squat & squeeze

heidimontagcheckkkkk it out! do you want to look like heidi montag? well all you need is a nose job, a boob job, and THIS workout video! i say go for it. the 22-year-old reality tv star has taken her “fame” to the fitness world for her very own workout routine.

for only $19.95 you can find out all of heidi’s secrets! complete with butt squeezes & skimpy outfits, i’m sure this is her best work yet. montag opened up to self magazine about the vid: “the e-book is a healthy lifestyle to adapt and adjust your body to every day. you can download exercises, a plan to break-down what you should do each day, a whole health plan – it’s really a lifestyle of fitness.”

but what i really love is her mention of her hard work… i mean, her plastic surgery endeavors. “the fun thing about surgery is that they always have new things and you can always try things. i’m not sure what’s on that list right now, but i’m sure as i get older, i’ll want to keep up with maintenance as most hollywood does.” doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose of a workout video? why work out when you can just get it lifted & sucked out? well, heidi, i think i’ll pass on the video, thanks.

queen tyra

tyra-banks-660

does she even realize how vain she is? tyra banks, ladies & gentlemen! ever since the launch of her talk show, tyra finds some way to make every segment all about her. and the season premiere of tyty’s 5th season will be no different!

the lovely lady has decided to make the premiere, september 8th “national real hair day!” she actually created her own holiday. i think what tyra doesn’t realize is that most of us ‘normal’ people don’t have hairstylists… therefore ‘real hair day’ is everyday.

tyra says: “this season on ‘the tyra show’ we’re taking it to the next level and getting more real than ever before by encouraging women everywhere to own and rock what they’ve got and be proud! for the season 5 premiere, i will be doing just that – no fake hair, i’m rocking my REAL hair. this will all be going down on september8, 2009, which we’re declaring national real hair day! we welcome everyone to go natural with me!”

wanna see tyra’s real hair? and also see ladies wearing strange nude bodysuits? i’m assuming the answer to those questions is ‘no.’ if it happens to be ‘yes’ (weirdos), then you can tune in the the cw to celebrate our God-given hair!

peer pressure

there’s no question that actress megan fox is gorgeous. but can that help her on the big screen? her first couple of endeavors – the ‘transformers’ series – aren’t good indicators of her film success as those would’ve been huge either way. perhaps we’ll see in her next project. fox stars in a dark comedy ’jennifer’s body‘ written by diablo cody (‘juno’) due out september 18th.

okay, tell me. does this sounds like something you’d wanna see? megan plays a sexy cheerleader popular with both the girls & the boys. in attempt to get a record deal, fox’s character engages in a satanic ritual that ends up leaving her possessed by a demon. the demon in her proceeds to murder – and eat – boys in her high school. amanda seyfried (‘mean girls,’ ‘mamma mia’) plays the best friend trying to stop all the killings. ummmm…

in any case, the edgy megan fox took to making a psa to promote the upcoming release of the film. see the vid, after the jump! (mind the language) “every year,” she says “thousands of kids entering our high schools, succumbing to terrible peer pressure. let’s face it, high school can be tough and kids can be cruel. picking on others for just being different.” she continues “well, i say f— ‘em cuz they don’t know s—. what really matters is being yourself and if that includes slowly killing and then eating every boy at your school, then i say do it. because nothing’s more important than just being who you are.”

time travelin’ tv

timetravel

‘the time traveler’s wife’… did you like the book? did you like the movie? then get ready for the tv series! abc & ‘friends’ creator marta kauffman have joined forces to make the hit story a weekly edition. the movie, with eric bana & rachel mcadams, pulled in a hefty $20 million in it’s 3-day opening. it would appear it’s just money in the bank for execs!

apparently abc’s interest in adapting the story into a tv series has been long-standing – the network says they’ve been discussing the project with writer/producer kauffman “for years.” the talented lady will both write & executive produce for the show. abc execs believe they’ll be able to string-out & explore the relationship between the two main characters throughout a few seasons. the series centers around a man that spontaneously time travels to and from the woman he loves.

while this has potential, i think it might be difficult for fans of the book/movie to sit still episode to episode. abc touts that the series will feature self-contained storylines as well, but i’m not sure it will be enough. plus, haven’t we seen a romantic time-travel tv show before? nbc’s 2007 ‘journeyman’ only lasted one season. hopefully the popularity of ‘the time traveler’s wife’ will help it fare a bit better!

couples retreat

this one sounds too good to be true. vince vaughn? jason bateman? and those are just two of the hysterical 8-person cast for the upcoming flick ‘couples retreat.’ due in theaters october 9th, the comedy follows four midwestern couples who take off to a tropical island resort. little do they know, participation in the resort’s couples therapy is not optional.

vince vaughn championed the idea of following four very different couples through very real-life (but funny) problems faced by couples across the world. also starring is ‘sex and the city’s’ kristin davis, faizon love, kristen bell and newcomer malin akerman. while one of the couple’s was there to really give their marriage a much-needed face-lift, the other three just went for the awesome group rate. so, you can imagine the hilarity that ensues.

plus, anything vince vaughn & jason bateman do is golden. the tagline? ‘it may be paradise, but it’s no vacation.’ check out the trailer above.
