stiles by styles

i love a good spoof video! julia stiles – we haven’t heard from her in awhile! – posted this hysterical vid poking fun at celebrity fashion designers who push eco-friendly ensembles. the host of the “show” interviews julia as she displays her creative pieces. “have you ever designed anything before?” the host starts off. normally the celebs go into some wacky story about how even though they may be an actress, their heart is in fashion. instead, a straight-faced julia answers “no.”

out come the models. among julia’s designs is a top called “ten shirts i love about you” made from bits of 10 old tops sewn together. and my favorite? the ‘shants,’ a shirt that becomes pants when legs are slipped into the armhole. julia even created a website for the spoof – juliastilesstyles.com - where you can read a bit more about the what & the why behind the project.

the mock clothes mysteriously seem to all be sold out, which is where the website encourages you to instead donate to the lunchbox fund. julia filmed the bit with the comedy troupe the vacationeers. after her stint in “designing,” the actress is headed to broadway to co-star in oleanna. the play premieres october 11th.

i dove into the world of manolos & louis vuitton, finally renting the ‘sex and the city’ movie. i know, i’m a little late on the bandwagon. like 10 years late! i’ve never even seen a full episode on tv. but i decided to go there. so i’ll give it to ya straight. why i liked it & why i didn’t.

of course the clothes were fabulous, that’s a given. i applaud the visual aspects of the movie. but to be honest – that was about all i liked. first off, it was too dang LONG! i found myself wishing it would just end already. and there was waaayy too much going on. they were happy, sad, happy, single, married, divorced, reconciled, then sad, then happy all over again. i really wish they would’ve spent time developing a storyline instead of cutting up several & pasting them back together at the end.
there were also some very strange transitions. i remember at one point we were laughing at carrie & the next we were (or maybe just me) covering my eyes while samantha’s neighbor had a threesome! but i will say samantha was my favorite character. she gave the movie the witty banter that it needed.

overall – hey, why not – it was exactly what fans of the movie wanted it to be. true to the tv show, fun, fashionable & all about the laaaadies!
