facebook

ahhh facebook. how many times a day do you log on? whether you’re keeping in touch or doing your daily “stalking,” almost everyone’s got a profile on the popular site these days. but it wasn’t always so popular. and that’s where facebook: the movie comes in.

director david fincher (‘fight club’ & ‘the curious case of benjamin button’) is set to take on the flick that will chronicle the early days of facebook. it’s been circulating that the movie, titled ’the social network,’ will be ready for production by the end of 2009. the script is based on an adaptation of the upcoming book accidental billionaires: the founding of facebook, a tale of sex, money, genius and betrayal, written by ben mezrich.

wow! who knew? we thought the founders were a bunch of techy nerd bombers! apparently singer/”actor” justin timberlake has just signed on for the starring role of sean parker, the entrepreneur who created napster and later became facebook’s president. regardless of the interesting casting choices, i think this will at least be an entertaining look into the world that so many of us participate in, but don’t know too much about.

the lost tapes

oh james, james franco. after conquering his dreams of acting, he decided to finish up his degree at ucla this past year. you might remember that hysterical picture of the actor completely asleep during one of his classes – it definitely didn’t help the media take his academic endeavors seriously.

however, when it came time to pick the commencement speaker for ucla’s graduation, they overlooked his snoozing and picked mr. franco. he was all ready to go, too, when just two weeks before the big day he had to back out. franco released a statement saying: “i deeply regret not being able to keep my commitment to giving the commencement speech at ucla’s graduation this year. unfortunately the date conflicts with me needing to be on location to begin pre-production on my next film. i wish everyone in the 2009 class the best of luck in all of their future endeavors.”

would he have been any good? now, almost a month later, we know the answer to that question. james partnered up with will ferrell’s genius website ‘funny or die’ to record his would-be commencement speech. so he’s cute AND funny? while he dropped the f* bomb one too many times in my opinion, it still had me laughing. check it out above. ucla seniors of 2009, rest easy knowing you were better off?

bruno-licious

yessss. the genius that is sacha baron cohen has treated us to another performance. you might remember (and who wouldn’t) his 2006 hit movie ‘borat: cultural learnings of America for make benefit glorious nation of kazakhstan’ in which cohen went undercover as the hilariously inappropriate kazakhstani reporter borat.

well, he’s back again. and just as inappropriate. this time he comes to us a flamboyantly gay austrian fashion reporter. and to kick off the worldwide release, cohen paraded around in some of the best costumes ever. paris, london, spain & amsterdam were treated to one-of-a-kind bruno creations (see above, if you dare). cohen, in true artist form, never broke character during his media tour.

‘bruno’ will hit theaters on july 10th, and is sure to be a hit despite a few negative reviews. i don’t think that’ll matter so much to the 16-35 crowd.  the movie, from what we’ve seen thus far, features several moments of fashion-inspired hysteria. he even gets arrested a few times, naturally. check out the trailer below and a warning? just prepare yourself.
