move over, ‘glee!’

glee-cast

sometimes tv execs make some interesting decisions. cult-hit tv show ‘glee’ has taken audiences by storm… one song at a time. and while i don’t particularly enjoy the musically-dominated show, it’s no secret that most people want ‘glee’ to stay. but what does fox do? they put the show on hiatus… for 5 months!

making way for the ratings-giant ‘american idol,’ fox is wrapping up ‘glee’s’ fall run on december 9th. then – get this – doesn’t come back until april 13, 2010! a very risky decision, if you ask me. since the show is still so new, they could lose some fans by making them wait to see more of it. i suppose time will tell if this will effect ‘glee’s’ fan base.

take a bow

heath ledger’s final contribution to the film world, ‘the imaginarium of doctor parnassus,’ has just released its trailer. and can i just say… wow. check out the trailer above. it pretty much oozes brilliance.

ledger, who portrays the film’s lead character, passed away in the midst of filming. only about half of his work was done, which left the question of who to replace him up to director terry gilliam. gilliam decided to honor ledger by casting several great actors in his place – johnny depp, jude law & colin farrell. the 3 men portray transformations of the ledger’s character as he travels through a dream world.

the film follows the leader of a traveling theatre troupe, doctor parnassus (christopher plummer), who makes a deal with the devil in order to give the audience the show of their dreams. when the devil comes to collect on his end of the deal & things go sour, ledger’s character tony embarks on a journey to save the doctor’s daughter. as ledger’s unexpected death led to a production hiatus, the release date has been pushed from october to december 25th.

3 for 4

the ‘vh1 divas’ concert is back! bet you never knew it left, huh? apparently the network put the show on hiatus for four years. but not to worry, vh1 is prepping for the big show’s comeback in september. with performers in the past like mariah carey & aretha franklin, i was interested to see who they tapped for this year’s concert. well, the ladies have just been announced.

leona lewis? check; she’s an absolute powerhouse. adele & kelly clarkson? definitely have proved their staying power. but miley cyrus? she’s 16 for pete’s sake. the concert is touted as having ”legendary” performers… i don’t really think miley can quite be legendary at the age of 16. yes, she’s got a large tween following, but let’s be honest – her vocals are nowhere NEAR the likes of past ‘divas’ performers.

regardless, the ladies will belt out their hits live on vh1 on september 17th, 9/8c. the network just released the following info with more details on the big she-bang: “for the first time ever, these leading ladies at the top of their musical game will perform together live at the howard gilman opera house in brooklyn, new york.  continuing in true ’divas’ tradition, the evening will feature a night of unforgettable performances from various performers, presenters and special guests. additional performers & presenters will be annonced in the coming weeks.”
