adam lambert a mentor?!

mariah carey, neil diamond, dolly parton, usher, mick jagger… adam lambert?! clearly, american idol had one thing in mind when selecting adam lambert as their next mentor judge: money.

promoting lambert on the show is essentially free marketing for the idol peeps & their label. because they clearly weren’t thinking about music industry experience! this guy’s been around for what – 10.5 minutes? annoying.

adam will be mentoring tonight on idol – april 13th. alright i get it, it’s your show, you wanna promote your own people. but how about some previous idols with proven success stories… (aka carrie underwood, kelly clarkson)

regardless, the queen of glam will be mentoring on tuesday’s show, and performing on wednesday. are you excited? or like me… annoyed?

counterproductive

kind of confused – what is ‘self’ magazine’s mantra again? i thought it was to make women feel confident, healthy & fabulous in the skin their in. apparently kelly clarkson’s skin just wasn’t good enough! the music star is this month’s ‘self’ mag cover girl, and as you can see above it doesn’t exactly capture kel’s true essence.

recently the star has been criticized for her weight gain. in response, kelly says “my happy weight changes. sometimes i eat more; sometimes i play more. i’ll be different sizes all the time. when people talk about my weight, i’m like ‘you seem to have a problem with it; i don’t. i’m fine!’ i’ve never felt uncomfortable on the red carpet or anything.”

which is all well & good. all the power to you, clarkson! but here’s the thing. the mag cover is clearly photo-shopped. but editor-in-chief of ‘self’ lucy danziger claims that post-production corrections are normal. “self magazine inspires & informs 6 million readers each month to reach their all around best. kelly clarkson exudes confidence, and is a great role model for women of all sizes & stages of their life.”

people obviously viewed the cover pic as counterproductive to what the editor claims is the goal of their magazine. what did they think we wouldn’t notice?

3 for 4

the ‘vh1 divas’ concert is back! bet you never knew it left, huh? apparently the network put the show on hiatus for four years. but not to worry, vh1 is prepping for the big show’s comeback in september. with performers in the past like mariah carey & aretha franklin, i was interested to see who they tapped for this year’s concert. well, the ladies have just been announced.

leona lewis? check; she’s an absolute powerhouse. adele & kelly clarkson? definitely have proved their staying power. but miley cyrus? she’s 16 for pete’s sake. the concert is touted as having ”legendary” performers… i don’t really think miley can quite be legendary at the age of 16. yes, she’s got a large tween following, but let’s be honest – her vocals are nowhere NEAR the likes of past ‘divas’ performers.

regardless, the ladies will belt out their hits live on vh1 on september 17th, 9/8c. the network just released the following info with more details on the big she-bang: “for the first time ever, these leading ladies at the top of their musical game will perform together live at the howard gilman opera house in brooklyn, new york.  continuing in true ’divas’ tradition, the evening will feature a night of unforgettable performances from various performers, presenters and special guests. additional performers & presenters will be annonced in the coming weeks.”
