who dat

did you enjoy your superbowl party yesterday? well apparently so did a lot of people. superbowl xliv has officially taken its place as the most-watched program in USA history! more than 106.5 million people tuned in to see the saints prevail over the colts yesterday.

in comparison, last year’s superbowl garnered 98.7 million. the superbowl has surpassed the last record-holder, 1983′s finale of “m*a*s*h”, which boasted 105.97 million viewers. but hey, how many fewer television sets were there back in ’83? i went to a party at a house with 22 tv’s, for pete’s sake! regardless, superbowl xliv is now the reigning ratings champ.

check out a few commercials that made the game even more interesting!

true hit

truebloodthe execs over at HBO should write a big ‘ole thank-you note to ‘twilight.’ mainly because viewership for the second season of the network’s vampire drama ‘true blood’ went up 157% from the previous year. ‘twilight,’ among other things, made vampires the cool new thing.

‘true blood’ centers around the love story of a human & a vampire – and all that that implies. while the first season won critical acclaim and even a golden globe (best actress, anna paquin), the viewership wasn’t quite there.  the first season of ‘true blood’ debuted to a disappointing 1.4 million.

and then came ‘twilight.’ after the release of the movie, ‘true blood’s’ fan base grew significantly. the premiere of the second season became the highest rated program for HBO since ‘the sopranos’. the drama drew a whopping 3.7 million viewers. and the good news doesn’t stop there. the complete first season was just released on dvd, & sales have already topped $35 million. ‘true blood’ and its blood-sucking vampirs are here to stay.

minimum-wagers

cbs_get_that_alot_sp_2009__oPtso this isn’t rocket science. what’s funny is funny, and i think CBS got it right with this one. it was just announced that episodes of the april fool’s day special ‘i get that a lot’ have been reordered by CBS.

similar to everyone’s favorite candid camera shows, the situation is this: a real celeb goes to work at a run-of-the-mill restaurant or otherwise obscure place. customers unaware of the prank are then left to stare & wonder. could that really be her/him?? most people will muster up the courage to tell the “employee” that they look like the famous person. to which, and here comes the tv title, the celebs reply yea, i get that a lot.

i absolutely died laughing while watching the pranks. and apparently so did a lot of people because the premeire episode on april 1st garnered nearly ten million viewers! CBS will be airing specials of the show with new celebs each quarter. should be a money-maker! in the meantime, check out heidi klum at a pizza place & jessica simpson as a computer specialist below.

men vs wild

the comedic brilliance that is will ferrell spread his wings to tv land this past tuesday night. ferrell’s new movie, ‘land of the lost’ premieres this friday night, and he’s pulling out all the promotional stops. amidst talk shows & various interviews, ferrell did something a bit unconventional.

‘man vs. wild’ star bear grylls invited will to tag along for 48 hours in the arctic circle. and of course, hilarity ensued. take a peak at the teaser for the discovery channel tv special. while it already aired, you can catch the full show on youtube (Men vs Wild Part 1 of 5). this little gimmick proved successful as almost 4 million viewers tuned in.

click here (Land of the Lost Trailer) to see will in action as dr. rick marshall in his upcoming movie.  while it’s definitely looking funny, i’m willing to bet ferrell did this one for the kids.

jon & kate plus the d-word

The Gosselin Crew

there are simply no words. i used to watch TLC’s ‘jon & kate plus 8′ to get away from it all. ridiculously adorable kids and funny moments made for the perfect tv relief. but then, it happened. it’s no secret that this family has fallen into the media frenzy of fame & gossip. and oh how the people love it – the premiere of season 5 was the most-watched show ever on TLC, with 9.8 million viewers.

let it be said: just like anyone in the limelight, we cannot truly speculate what is going on in their life, what they’re thinking, what they’re going through, etc. but what i can do is comment on what i’ve seen as a viewer of their show.

through the past 4 seasons, let’s be honest, kate has changed so much. even from just the last season, it seems almost eerie how different she acts. in the season premiere alone, kate talked more about her personal endeavors than ever before. it’s a no-brainer that she loves her children & has worked hard to make a great life for them. BUT it simply doesn’t add up. she spent probably half the episode talking about the paparazzi & her “career.” she started to tear up and immediately stopped as she “didn’t want to ruin her makeup”. and jon… where the heck was he? despite issues between he and his wife, you can’t just take off for a weekend. my heart broke when little alexis said “daddy i don’t want you to leave anymore…”

i’m not the expert, but i do know that it takes 2 to make a marriage work. not a magazine, not a tv show. the worst thing you can do is publicly bash each other (kate: “well, i’m doing it on my own. by myself. jon decided he needed a weekend off,” then rolls her eyes). and then it hits rock-bottom. kate introduced the dreaded d-word. once you admit that divorce is a possibility, it becomes an inevitability. they say that their family is their number one priority, and if it really is, then get rid of the tv show. get rid of the rumored $75,000 per episode. and get back your LIFE.
