“killin’” with katherine & ashton

katherine heigl. ashton kutcher. already this movie is sounding good – and lookin’ good! barreling off of box office hits like the ugly truth and what happens in vegas, it was the perfect moment to seize.

these two are veterans of the romantic comedy genre! their latest, killers, boasts a pretty hysterical trailer (see above) and an entertaining synopsis:

trying to recover from a sudden break-up, jen (heigl) believes she’ll never fall in love again. but when she reluctantly joins her parents on a trip to the french riviera, jen happens to meet the man of her dreams, spencer (kutcher).

three years later, her seemingly impossible wish has come true: she and spencer are newlyweds living the ideal suburban life – that is, until the morning after spencer’s 30th birthday when bullets start flying. literally.

yes, it’s dumb. but i’m sure it will be funny! killers is set to release june 4th – kickin’ off a long list of summer blockbusters including iron man 2, shrek forever after, sex and the city 2, the twilight saga: eclipse and little fockers. seeing a trend from that list? all sequels!

remakin’ laverne & shirley

who knew? apparently jennifer garner & jessica biel are a couple of bff’s! enough to dive into a movie project together: the movie remake of 70′s classic tv show laverne & shirley.

romantic comedy guru director garry marshall is the brains behind the operation, with a fairly unlikely screenwritin’ partner – jamie foxx! marshall tells tv guide mag:

“jamie and i are trying to do it. he’s writing it. it’s a whole different modern take on how they came up on the streets during difficult times. laverne would be this very tough girl with a big ‘L’ tattooed on her arm. jennifer garner would play laverne and jessica biel would play shirley.”

wait, what? i can totally picture a cute best friend-ish movie with these two lovely ladies, but what’s all this about growin’ up in the streets, mr. director? i’m quite curious to see how this pans out!

when lying is funny

ever seen ‘the office?’ it’s the brain child of actor/writer ricky gervais. which is why his latest movie ‘the invention of lying’ will probably be pretty darn funny! premiering september 25th, the movie takes place in an alternate reality in which lying does not exist. people speak the truth and nothing but the truth no matter what the consequences.

when ricky’s character, mark, suddenly develops the ability to lie, he goes from loserville to fame & fortune. enter a pretty lady, and things get messy! gervais co-wrote and directed the film along with matthew robinson. the funnyman took to his blog to forwarn critics to lay off his little project. “dear critics (everyone), when judging the film, please remember that it is a high concept, pg-13 romantic comedy. it’s not ‘schindler’s list’ or ‘the godfather.’”

hmm, already raising red flags? no need to worry though, everything from his record-setting podcasts to his hbo stand-up specials have turned into comedy gold. ‘invention of lying’ co-stars beauty jennifer garner & jonah hill, which should attract various demographics. bring it on! i’m excited to see this one.

sjp & ferris bueller expecting twins

 sjp-021207-a1

such surprising news! sarah jessica parker & matthew broderick, married for over 12 years now, are expecting two new additions to their family. the couple have a 6-year-old son james wilkie but have since had trouble conceiving. after several unsuccessful tries to expand their fam, they turned to surrogacy.

the surrogate mother will be giving birth to the couple’s twin daughters late summer. can’t wait to hear what they’ll name them! they will certainly have their hands full this year: sarah jessica parker will be filming the sequel to ‘sex and the city’ & the romantic comedy ‘did you hear about the morgans?’ as hubby broderick is currently starring in ‘the philanthropist’ on broadway.

romantic comedy overload

after watching a (hilarious) episode of ‘the office’ on hulu.com, i started to browse some movie trailers. and whooooa baby, there was a ton of romantic comedies! while they aren’t necessarily breaking new grounds in the world of cinema, they are funny, light-hearted, and just plain old feel-good movies. i’ve got a couple here for you to check out… to help determine whether or not they’re worth the $10 movie ticket.
