one foxy host

sure she’s gorrrrgeous, but can she be funny? megan fox of ‘transformer’s fame is headlining ’saturday night live’s’ season 35th premiere tonight as the sketch show’s host.  she & cast member andy samberg put together a series of web promos for the big show – check them out above.

based on the promos, i’d be surprised if every skit didn’t focus on her good looks. let’s face it – the girl ain’t famous for her acting. her latest flick, ‘jennifer’s body,’ bombed big time at the box office. but the ‘snl’ cast is known for being able to carry guest hosts along – anyone recall the michael phelps episode?! – so i’m sure meggy will be just fine.

although, i gotta admit, she’s a fairly awkward person. the lady appeared on the jimmy fallon show this past thursday to discuss her upcoming ‘snl’ debut, and things got kinda strange. apparently she’s scared of touching paper? in any case, tonight’s the big night. megan will bring her crazy to nyc and we’ll see if she gets our laughs. also starring with megan will be musical guest u2. go big or go home, megs!

television’s big night

it’s the celebration of television! the emmy awards, hosted by neil patrick harris, featured a plethora of your favorite shows & stars – all there to honor the industry’s best. the telecast garnered a viewership of 13.3 million, an impressive 11% increase from last year’s show.

we’re all used to ’30 rock’ being big winners, which of course this year they were as well (best comedy, best lead actor), but i was happy to see some other well-deserved victories. the lovely toni collette won the emmy for best actress in a comedy series (‘united states of tara’). and for his role as ben in ‘lost’, michael emerson won best supporting actor. i also thought it was very fitting for justin timberlake to win best guest host for his hilarious stints on ‘saturday night live.’ click here for a full list of this year’s honorees.

but let’s be honest – you just wanna know who looked good and who failed miserably! best dressed, shall we? i have to give it up to ‘eastwick’ star lindsay price. my oh my she looked stunning in a dress by j. mendel. and emmy award-winning actress toni collette found this drop-dead gorgeous monique l’huillier gown. just plain WOW. who would’ve thought that toni would show up in – of all things – a pink, frilly dress!

as for the worst? well, see for yourself. blake lively, star of ‘gossip girl,’ was on track with a beautiful versace gown… that is until she sliced it down to her navel. it’s just a bit much, yes? and the long, braided ponytail is a little too ‘xena warrior princess’ for my taste. then there’s poor sarah silverman. definitely not a flattering look on her! this is all sorts of wrong. especially the weird hip-bouffant action going on.

the trend of the night? white gowns. we’ve got january jones (‘mad men’) in atelier versace, olivia wilde (‘house’) in marchesa, leighton meester (‘gossip girl’) in bottega veneta & kim kardashian in ina soltani. january & olivia, i’m loving it. as for the other two ladies, i’m not as enthused. kim must’ve known she would get some ‘saturday night fever’ cracks in that outfit!

snl on the big screen

the rise in popularity that ‘saturday night live’ has experienced over the past 2 years is no doubt due to its hilarious new sketches. perhaps, they’re thinking, now would be a good time to pounce - a.ka. make money off their good ratings. snl has long tried its hand at translating skits into movies – with such “classics” as ‘the ladies man,’ & ‘the coneheads.’ none have ever really enjoyed great success, but it’s not surprising that snl execs aren’t ready to give up.  enter, macgruber.

the snl sketch ‘macgruber’ is a parody of tv’s ‘macgyver’ in which will forte repeatedly finds himself in a 15-seconds-’til-the-world-blows-up kind of situation. the usually 3 minute sketch is always funny, but i just don’t see how it’ll make a big screen hit. apparently i’m not the only one who feels that way. nevertheless, ‘macgruber’ is all set to begin shooting next month. the man behind the sketch, jorma taccone, will be directing the snl crew of forte & kristen wiig. here’s where it gets weird – ryan phillippe & val kilmer will be co-starring. yeah, moving on.

in the film, the legendary macgruber is forced to come out of retirement to defend his country against enemies with nuclear warheads. he’ll battle against  his ultimate nemesis – the man responsible for killing his wife. it all sounds well & good, but the funniest part of snl’s macgruber skits (see above) is when time runs out and everything blows up. do i smell anothe flop? probably.

really?

oh michael phelps. hey, i’m not one to throw stones, he can do what he wants! but when you do something dumb and you’re really really famous, you’s-a-gonna get in heaps of trouble, golden boy. as i’m sure you’ve all heard, phelps was caught smoking some mary jane. the media backlash has been huge! losing several endorsement deals, having to make public apologies, etc… let’s just say it hasn’t been his easiest week.

anyway, saturday night live’s seth myers did a piece last week about all the hoopla. he puts a different spin on the story – it’s pretty funny. check it out!

mom jeans

jessica simpson has been all up in the news lately, being criticized for her alleged weight gain… which of course i think is ridiculous.

so i would instead like to focus on her fashionable choice of ‘mom jeans’ at a recent concert. while she tried to dazzle them up with a leopard print belt, you can’t deny that they are, in fact, mom jeans.

this immediately took me back to one of my favorite saturday night live skits, a jcpenney ad for a brand of jeans aptly named ‘mom jeans.’ hysterical. snl writers never cease to amaze me!

gilly!

saturday night live skit from the weekend. kristen wiig is absolutely amazing! this has to be one of the funniest i’ve seen…
