move over, ‘glee!’

glee-cast

sometimes tv execs make some interesting decisions. cult-hit tv show ‘glee’ has taken audiences by storm… one song at a time. and while i don’t particularly enjoy the musically-dominated show, it’s no secret that most people want ‘glee’ to stay. but what does fox do? they put the show on hiatus… for 5 months!

making way for the ratings-giant ‘american idol,’ fox is wrapping up ‘glee’s’ fall run on december 9th. then – get this – doesn’t come back until april 13, 2010! a very risky decision, if you ask me. since the show is still so new, they could lose some fans by making them wait to see more of it. i suppose time will tell if this will effect ‘glee’s’ fan base.

glee-less

gleeslider

last may, fox was convinced they had a hit with their latest tv show, ‘glee.’ viewers were ecstatic over the preview of this musically-inclined sitcom. naturally, fox jumped for joy over the ratings & fast-tracked the show into a fall premiere. but they might want to wait on the congratulatory champagne.

the next set of reviews are in. and variety has ripped the hopeful hit to shreds! “talk about one-hit wonders,” the mag writes, ”the promise & energy associated with the debut of ‘glee’ last spring largely evaporates.” the review purports that the series will be short-lived, to say the least.

did ya miss the preview last spring? lemme catch you up. it’s a look at romance through a high-school glee club. misfit singers, star quarterbacks, cheerleaders & awkward teachers fill the cast – with the group occasionally bursting into song & dance. variety says that while the cast has a whole lot of talent, it seems to be crushed alongside the show’s “jokey, cartoonish, wildly uneven tone.” we’ll see if audiences buy into the new show come this season. ‘glee’ premieres on fox sept. 9th at 9pm. i’ll leave you with this parting shot from variety: in order for the show to last, “they’re gonna have to croon a tune helluva lot better than this!”

time travelin’ tv

timetravel

‘the time traveler’s wife’… did you like the book? did you like the movie? then get ready for the tv series! abc & ‘friends’ creator marta kauffman have joined forces to make the hit story a weekly edition. the movie, with eric bana & rachel mcadams, pulled in a hefty $20 million in it’s 3-day opening. it would appear it’s just money in the bank for execs!

apparently abc’s interest in adapting the story into a tv series has been long-standing – the network says they’ve been discussing the project with writer/producer kauffman “for years.” the talented lady will both write & executive produce for the show. abc execs believe they’ll be able to string-out & explore the relationship between the two main characters throughout a few seasons. the series centers around a man that spontaneously time travels to and from the woman he loves.

while this has potential, i think it might be difficult for fans of the book/movie to sit still episode to episode. abc touts that the series will feature self-contained storylines as well, but i’m not sure it will be enough. plus, haven’t we seen a romantic time-travel tv show before? nbc’s 2007 ‘journeyman’ only lasted one season. hopefully the popularity of ‘the time traveler’s wife’ will help it fare a bit better!

i caved

2008_sex_and_the_city_0022

i dove into the world of manolos & louis vuitton, finally renting the ‘sex and the city’ movie. i know, i’m a little late on the bandwagon. like 10 years late! i’ve never even seen a full episode on tv. but i decided to go there. so i’ll give it to ya straight. why i liked it & why i didn’t.

of course the clothes were fabulous, that’s a given. i applaud the visual aspects of the movie. but to be honest – that was about all i liked. first off, it was too dang LONG! i found myself wishing it would just end already. and there was waaayy too much going on. they were happy, sad, happy, single, married, divorced, reconciled, then sad, then happy all over again. i really wish they would’ve spent time developing a storyline instead of cutting up several & pasting them back together at the end.
there were also some very strange transitions. i remember at one point we were laughing at carrie & the next we were (or maybe just me) covering my eyes while samantha’s neighbor had a threesome! but i will say samantha was my favorite character. she gave the movie the witty banter that it needed.

overall – hey, why not – it was exactly what fans of the movie wanted it to be. true to the tv show, fun, fashionable & all about the laaaadies!

the high-5

quite by accident, i ended up watching the last half of ‘howie do it,’ a tv show on nbc similar to the late great ‘candid camera’. and let’s just say that i laughed for a solid 30 minutes. i have not laughed-until-i-cried in a long time! i promise you, you will die after watching this clip. absolutely hysterical…

“well, i really like bears.”

ohh wow! what a great night for ‘the bachelor’. you know, it is quite a fun show to watch. mainly because i think it is quite interesting to see people try for “love” on a tv show. but the show also provides for some hearty laughs. tonight, for example, i watched in dismay as several of the girls made some pretty note-worthy comments…

my favorite, was when jason explained that he wanted to get to know natalie a little better. you know, dig a little deeper, if you will. so he says “tell me something about yourself, something personal.” to which natalie replies, “well, i really like bears.” i don’t know if it was clever editing or what, but jason’s reaction was absolutely pricelessssss. i still can’t even think about it without dying laughing!

another good one was when nikki was being interviewed by producers. she states quite confidently, “i know i’m pretty, and i know i’m smart. but maybe being pretty and smart just isn’t good enough for him.” really nikki? really??

anyway, you better believe i will keep tuning in… if for no other reason than to hear more funny quotes!
